I was very excited about this portion of the trip, as I’ve never been outside
of the country. Of course, things really aren’t very different in Niagara
Falls on the Canadian side. Everything is posted in both English and French,
which is kinda cool, but it was just as crowded as the other side was, I
bet. The boulevard near the river was packed with people staring at the
beautiful falls.
We got tickets and went on a boat called The Maid of the Mist. She takes
you up near the falls to experience the whirlpools and stuff. They give
you a very sensible poncho to wear. I didn’t really see why until we went
past American Falls. I was drenched by all the mist. The winds are very
strong near the base of the falls, and blow water everywhere. The entire
boat was dripping wet by the time we turned back around. I couldn’t even
really look into the falls because of all the water rushing toward my eyes.
I didn’t think I needed a shower again, but apparently I did. My hair got
all curly from the humidity as it dried.
After our ride on the boat, we went to eat lunch at a place my mom ate
before. Of course, the really good mushroom burger wasn’t on the menu anymore.
So, our long hike was fairly fruitless—other than the fact that we got some
cool pictures near the start of the falls. I was all dried out by the time
we got back onto the bus to cross back into the United States.
