Hannibal, Missouri

Picture of Mark Twain.Hannibal is the birthplace of Samuel Clemens (aka Mark Twain). We didn’t have any time to really take in the sights or visit his museum before we had to get on the boat the Mark Twain. I was a bit disappointed. Mark Twain is one of my favorite American authors—his satires are hilarious. But, it was fun going on the Mississippi aboard a real steamboat (which is what the Mark Twain is). It was raining when we first went aboard, but the entertainment was fun. One of the waitresses broke Tasha’s glass while trying to fill it up with lemonade—which wasn’t so nice for Tasha, but it meant our table got to get in line to eat faster than we would have. The food was pretty good.

By the time dinner was over, it had finished raining. Tasha and I went exploring, and finally settled on standing at the prow of the ship as we made our way up and down the Mississippi. It was a very pleasant day. We saw a huge barge making its way up river—the goods inside of it would’ve taken thirty-five miles of trucks to hold! The Mississippi is just as vital now as it was to early settlers in transporting goods. After our voyage, Tasha and I purchased ‘pirates of the Mississippi’ shirts with good old Mark Twain on them as a pirate. Arr!

"Sorry...I just thought with the captain issue in question, I'd throw in my name for consideration."
