Qi Baishi Square
'Alo, 'alo!
Jeff and I went to Qi Baishi Square with Sese and some of my other students on Wednesday, and I actually remembered to bring my camera--amazing, eh? Qi Baishi is a famous artist from Xiangtan who lived during the first part of the twentieth century. There's a lovely park around a museum displaying some of his work. And fish. I like fish. I took a video of the fish, actually, which you can see down at the bottom. These koi were huge! And very hungry. But first things first...the picture you see above is Jeff and I at the museum. One of our students took the picture. Don't you like Jeff's jeans? He's kinda self-conscious about wearing them, which amuses me greatly.
I took a picture of some of the examples of Qi Baishi's artwork. He had a very simple technique, which many artists today still appreciate. And he never had any formal training in art--he was originally going to be a carpenter. His parents were quite poor, and he still managed to make a big impact on Chinese art. He was a very good role model. Below is a picture of Jeff and I with my students. We feel very tall in China. I frequently hit my head on the hand-rails on the buses. But that's okay. I love being here.
My classes are going pretty well. My students seem to enjoy my lessons, for the most part. Yesterday, I showed them some American money. They then had to convince me to invest in their ideas for tourism companies--I gave the winning team members dimes, which they thought was really quite nifty. They were amazed at how
Well, I should probably get started on my lesson for Monday. If you wanna see a few more pictures, I've put some online here. Enjoy the quiet video I took of the fish!

I couldn't find the fish video either... But the pictures are great! It's also really great that your students are willing to take you guys around to show you the area! I bet you're having a great time, head hitting rails or not! Can't wait to read more about your great adventures!
YOU ARE NOT ALLOWED TO THROW CANDY!!!!!!!! (And I'll get on that posting soon. Time's been a touch limited as of late.)
I'm glad you finally decided to take pictures. Those museum pictures were really neat. Really beautiful.
Oh, and why should Jeff be self-conscious about his jeans? They seem like nice pants. Whatever. Working with a different fit of clothing than you're used to can be interesting, I suppose.
I'm glad your classes are going well. I'm glad you're students are good to you and haven't filleted you or something. I suppose they'll like you more now that you've passed out money. Speaking of money, I look forward to seeing your Chinese coin collection.
The fish video was neat. I like watching fish surge like that. It's funny and cool. And it's all the more coolerer because the koi are so bright.
Those fish are so cool! Awesome video! So many colors! :D
